One of the best perks of dating in Orlando? Being able to have date night at Orlando hotels without staying over night. Reopened at the end of October, Islands Dining Room at Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando brings new energy to Orlando hotel dining. The refreshed menu leans into South Pacific–inspired flavors with a modern edge, blending fire-grilled dishes, wok favorites, and handcrafted cocktails and mocktails.

My husband and I have been there before; in fact, it is a favorite spot of mine to recommend for New Year's Eve Dinner, and other special holidays. This past Mother's Day, I specifically requested that we dine at Islands, thanks to the bountiful buffet plus enchanting tropical entertainment.

We just returned from a hosted dinner to experience the new menu and marvelous redecoration of this tropical restaurant. Here's what we loved so you know what to order, plus details on parking validation and more.

The redesigned interior feels noticeably lighter, airier, and more contemporary while still honoring the restaurant’s island roots. Where the space once leaned darker and more traditional, it now features warm woods, soft greens, textured walls, and sculptural lighting that brighten the room.

Overall, it's a more relaxed, date-friendly flow, while lush greenery and carved wood details add depth and character. It’s polished but approachable.

The energy of Universal Orlando is palpable thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows that provide views of the resort's pool (behind some lush greenery) as well as excited visitors coming to and from the parks via the relaxing boat service.

Festive Atmosphere

Visiting in December adds an extra layer of magic, with the resort fully decorated for Christmas and a soundtrack that mixes Hawaiian music with romantic, classic holiday favorites—perfect for a relaxed but memorable date night.

What We Ordered (And Loved)

Dinner started with crab rangoons, served three to a plate with extra filling tucked underneath for a fun surprise. Although three is a rough number to split among a couple for date night, the extra filling makes the dish more shareable. And trust me, you'll want plenty of room for the entrees.

The red snapper arrived plated with rice and vegetables, accented by chili oil around the dish for customizable heat that was bold, but not heavy. I would have enjoyed a touch more vegetables, but I am a veggie lover and hard to satisfy in that way.

A half rack of sticky ribs delivered the ideal mix of char, sweetness, and a slight salty tang. To share, the vegan tofu broccoli lo mein stood out for its freshness and vibrant flavor, with extra-long noodles generous enough to take home.
