On Monday, May 25, 2026, at SeaWorld Orlando, Expedition Odyssey: Fire & Ice reopened as part of SeaWorld Orlando’s summer lineup.
Less than a year since Expedition Odyssey’s grand opening, the attraction now features a rethemed queue, a new storyline, and updated immersive footage. It’s a family-friendly thrill ride enjoyable for both kids and adults.
We got a first look at the updated ride, and we're sharing what you need to know for a great summer date at SeaWorld Orlando!
What to Expect on Expedition Odyssey: Fire & Ice
The ride is a fully immersive experience. I wasn’t just watching a screen, but feeling as though I was inside the environment. From water splashing against my face as I swim alongside sea creatures, to painted northern lights glowing above swimming dolphins, every element made me feel surrounded by the story being told.
Each row has 15 seats, allowing your entire group to ride together, and the experience lasts more than four minutes.
Be prepared that if you have large bags, you’ll need to leave them in a nearby locker; cubicles will be provided for smaller items such as hats, flip flops, or small bags.
Where The Expedition Odyssey Update Began
Jon “JP” Peterson, the Park President of SeaWorld Orlando, said the inspiration behind the update was to create full immersion.
“How do we bring you into the world? Fire & Ice is the collision of 2 sides of the world that make life possible, ” said Peterson. “I think the ride itself shows that. It shows from the volcanoes to the rivers to the falls, to all of a sudden, the beautiful creatures of the seas.”

Fun fact: the attraction’s retheme was completed in just three months! Justin Newton, Senior Vice President for United Parks, was still painting the queue 15 minutes before its grand opening.
So, where is SeaWorld planning to go from here?
Newton says Expedition Odyssey: Fire & Ice is a first look at what SeaWorld hopes to become in the next five years: “This is just an appetizer.”
Although SeaWorld will be changing, its mission has always been the same. “The message [we hope to convey] is let’s care for the world,” said Peterson. “Let’s care for our environment.”
