Situated on the corner of Park Avenue and E New England Ave in Winter Park, Luma on Park is one of those restaurants you’ve got to visit for date night at least once.
The restaurant, helmed by Chef Brandon McGlamery (Prato, Luke’s Kitchen & Bar), combines an upscale setting, boutique wine list, and seasonally driven cuisine working in unison to create quite the romantic atmosphere. The chef’s table is also worthy of inclusion on your date night bucket list.
Now you can experience this Winter Park dining hot spot on a budget, too, thanks to the newly launched happy hour, dubbed “Luma After Work.” We couldn’t resist the invitation to take Luma’s brand new happy hour for a test drive.
Served in the bar and lounge area Monday-Friday from 4-6pm, happy hour includes a selection of seven bar snacks, six cocktails, wines by the glass, and select draft beers priced at $5-$9 each.
As a cocktail lover, I was thrilled to spot six drinks on the menu, each highlighting a different spirit.
After hearing the elaborate back-story that inspired the Sweet Escape cocktail (made with Tito’s vodka, cantaloupe shrub, licor 43, Aperol, lime, and a mint cantaloupe foam) I couldn’t resist sipping on one myself. While I may not have been physically transported to a tropical escape, the drink did evoke a summery, relaxing vibe that definitely put the “happy” in my happy hour. Watching the application of the mint cantaloupe foam and fresh garnish added to the fun.
Other notable sips to savor include the gin-based White Linen, the Barrel Aged White Manhattan made with Winter Park Distillery’s white whiskey, and the Tequila Pine, made with habanero & pineapple infused tequila, among several others.
For wine and beer lovers, there’s an assortment of around 20 wines available by the half glass ($3), glass ($5), and bottle ($20) in addition to $5 draft beer.
On the menu, you’ll find an assortment of bar snacks priced at $5-$9 each, most of which are exclusive to the happy hour menu and a refreshing change up from typical happy hour fare.
We loved the avocado toast, which comes beautifully presented on slices of garlic crostini topped with avocado, pink peppercorns, and watermelon radish. While it was just a tad saltier than I prefer, it didn’t stop me from eating several slices.
Thanks to the delightful combination of bleu cheese dressing, crunchy romaine, smoky bacon, and bacon gastrique, I couldn’t help but eat every last bite of the steakhouse wedge. Despite not being much of a salad person, this smoky and sweet dish was easily my favorite on the happy hour menu. Order two so you don’t have to share!
The house-made pimento cheddar is another must try. Top the slices of sesame toast with a hearty serving and the accompanying prosciutto for your culinary enjoyment.
Other options include a hearty portion of Valencia almonds with fine herbs ($5), and a selection of three pizzas ($9 each).
Drinks: Luma has covered all the bases with its diverse cocktail menu, which includes vodka, whiskey, gin, and tequila-based concoctions. Wine and beer lovers have an assortment to choose from.
Food: The steakhouse wedge salad is worth the visit alone. The menu selection is varied and reasonably priced. You can indulge in two cocktails and 2-3 bar snacks for around $40.
Setting: You’ll be dining amongst Winter Park professionals winding down after work. Plush seating and warm early evening light contribute to the refined atmosphere.
Luma on Park scores an A. The diversity in food options and excellent cocktail list get rave reviews from us.
