Now for something completely different: the bioluminescence kayak tour at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. Led by A Day Away Kayak Tours, this experience gives paddlers access to a glow-at-night marine life phenomenon they'll never forget.

As the kayaks launch from the shore, participants witness a stellar sunset and see the wildlife that make their home in the Indian River and Mosquito Lagoons. Once the sun fully sets, the bioluminescence will start to glow.

You won’t need any kayaking experience to enjoy this 90-minute paddle. In fact, all you need to bring is some bug spray and a sense of adventure.

The tour, which costs $39-$45 per adult, includes the kayaks and related equipment. Payment is due in advance when you call 321-268-2655 to book your spots. Alternatively, you can also book online. You may also want to check out A Day Away's Paddle and A Pint kayak tour series, which features a guided kayak tour followed by a pint of beer at nearby Playalinda Brewing Company.

This tour is available June through early October. Spots book up quickly–especially on weekends– so if you're considering it, make your reservation well in advance of your desired date.
